Mr. Ahearn is recognized as a HealthierFeds Leader by being a role model and encouraging those around him to be aware of and utilize resources available through the workplace.
Mr. Ahearn is the Director of the Integrated Logistics Support Center for Soldier, Biological and Chemical Operations at the US Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command in Natick, MA. He is seen by his staff and coworkers as an example of healthy living because he works out regularly, eats a healthy diet and encourages those around him to take steps toward healthy living as well.
Mr. Ahearn is a senior leader in his organization, and leverages his leadership position to create a sense of personal empowerment among employees. While the TAACOM worksite has a good general acceptance of healthy living, Mr. Ahearn’s passion for living well has become, over time, a visible invitation for others to participate. He persuades those around him to stick with programs they start, and persevere in meeting healthy goals such as quitting smoking, weight loss and becoming and staying physically active.
When a new fitness center opened at the worksite, he convinced many of his coworkers of the value of arranging their days to use the center. Members of his staff readily acknowledge that his encouragement led them to make and maintain positive lifestyle changes. Understanding that behavior change comes after awareness and knowledge, he encourages employees to learn more about health issues and prevention, specifically encouraging them to know their blood pressure, cholesterol levels and other measures of health.
The combination of his support for worksite health and wellness programs, living the example and using his engaging personal style to coach and mentor others makes Mr. Ahearn a respected leader at his workplace.
